- Engaging in political advocacy and gathering legislative support for the Microbicides Development Act of 2007. For more information, click here.
- Participating in conferences around the state relating to HIV/AIDS and women’s rights and health through panel discussions, presentations, poster sessions and viewings of In Women’s Hands, a microbicide documentary.

Examples of some of our previous activities include:
- Producing a 30 minute and a 60 minute documentary on microbicides for public access television.
- Hosting a museum-quality exhibit of “Giving Women Power Over AIDS”, a photo-essay on the impact of HIV/AIDS on women and girls and the role microbicides could play. The exhibit traveled to 14 sites in Connecticut.
- Producing “The Power to Protect”, a day-long conference on local microbicides research findings and national and international microbicide research progress.
- Persuading Chris Shays (R)- to co-introduce the Microbicides Development Act of 2005 in the House; persuading Chris Dodd (D) to be an original co-sponsor of the Senate version of the Act; and persuading John Larson and Joe Lieberman to sign onto the Microbicides Development Act.
- Started S4M, a campus-based microbicides advocacy network
- And much, much more!!!
We are always looking for others to join with us. Here are a few ways to get involved:
- Sign-Up for our email list to get breaking microbicides news, advocacy alerts, and meeting announcements. (Email volume is quite low- typically only one or two emails a month.)
- Host a microbicides gathering: All you have to provide is a place, an audience of your friends, and some light refreshments. We will bring a copy of In Women’s Hands, pamphlets and other materials, and a trained educator who will talk to your group about microbicides, encourage discussion and answer any questions you may have.
- Get trained as a public educator: CT Microbicides Now will train you to educate others about microbicides. Classes are generally held in the evenings at a variety of locations, so please contact Regina Longinotti for specific dates and times.
- Help us gain support for the Microbicides Development Act of 2007: We are trying to encourage Representatives DeLauro, Simmons and Johnson to sign the act, but they need to hear from the people of CT! Come with us to meet with congressional representatives, and respond to legislative alerts.
- Help with Media and Visibility: Write an article or editorial for your local paper or group news letter. Contact us for information, interviews, or other resources you may need.
- Get involved in a tabling event or conference: We regularly attend conferences and have a presence at a variety of events. Help with organization and public education at these events is needed.
- Plan your own event
- Help keep our web page updated
- Attend CT Microbicides Now! meetings
- Bring us YOUR ideas!: CT Microbicides Now! is always looking for new ways to be more effective in accomplishing our goals. If you have a way in which you would like to be involved that is not mentioned above, or simply have a suggestion, please contact us and we will try to provide you with the necessary resources.
