Meet our Staff


The Global Campaign has a small core staff in Johannesburg, South Africa; Nairobi, Kenya; Lusaka, Zambia; and Washington, DC. We do most of our work in collaboration with our many partner organisations around the world and team up with experienced consultants to achieve project goals.

Yasmin Halima, MPH, Director, USA
Yasmin Halima is the Director of the Global Campaign for Microbicides, an international NGO based in Washington DC with offices in Johannesburg, Nairobi, and Lusaka. The mission of the Global Campaign is to expand HIV prevention options for women through ethical research, effective policy and stronger civil society engagement. As consultant, Yasmin specialized in HIV research in resource-limited countries, working closely with the US Centers for Disease and Prevention, US National Institutes of Health as well as scientists, physicians and activists engaged with HIV treatment access and research. Yasmin also served as Consultant to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation facilitating stakeholder dialogue in biomedical prevention. She established the International AIDS Society Industry Liaison Forum, bringing together pharmaceutical executives with developing world scientists. She served on the board of the European AIDS Treatment Group (EATG) and as Vice-President of the US AIDS Treatment Activist Coalition (ATAC).

Yasmin is a member of the Women’s Research Initiative on HIV/AIDS (WRI), a multidisciplinary expert forum committed to “more, better and faster research” into HIV disease in women. Yasmin completed her MPH in Global Health at Columbia University, New York. She currently teaches health and international development at the American University, Washington DC. Yasmin was awarded the British Asian Woman of Achievement Social and Humanitarian Award recognizing her work on HIV, women and marginalized communities.

Samu Dube, MPH, MD, African Programme Leader, South Africa
Dr. Samukeliso Dube (Samu for short) oversees GCM’s work on social mobilization, community involvement, and capacity building in East and Southern Africa. Dr. Dube is a public health physician with more than eight years experience in clinical management, policy, programming and advocacy of public health programs in Southern Africa. She has worked in the HIV/AIDS field with a number of international NGOs, including Oxfam UK and ActionAID, and is a commitee member of Physicians for Human Rights in her home country of Zimbabwe.

Dr. Dube came to GCM from the Infectious Disease Research Unit at the University of Limpopo, where she was a co-investigator on various HIV prevention trials, and manager of the South African Vaccination and Immunization Centre in Medunsa. Dr Dube holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery, a Masters in Public Health, Tropical medicine and Infectious diseases and is a PHD candidate in Public Health.

Pauline Irungu, Program Officer, Kenya
Based in Nairobi, Pauline works as an organiser and facilitator, strengthening the Global Campaign’s collaborations with community groups and microbicides research teams in eastern Africa. Pauline comes to GCM from the Kenyan AIDS NGOs Consortium (KANCO), where she managed the HIV vaccine preparedness program for civil society organisations and community groups. She has substantial experience in advocacy, networking, documentation and information management.

Pauline holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Sciences from Moi University (Kenya) and is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Sociology and Community Development from the University of Nairobi (Kenya).

Amelia Kinter, Project Administrator, USA
Amelia is responsible for the financial and operations elements of the GCM project.  She joins the team with a wide range of global health experience including interning with the USAID Global Health Bureau on theTB team, organizing disaster responses for the American Red Cross, and advocating for women’s and men's reproductive health in New York State. She has also worked in the field as a project manager in Loitokitok, Kenya measuring the success of the Government of Kenya's Trachoma Awareness Program. Amelia has her Masters of Social Work concentrating in health administration, international development, and disaster management, in addition to a Masters of Public Health focusing in global health from Washington University in St. Louis.

Precious Pilane, Program Assistant, South Africa
Precious is in charge of program administration and provides support to the GCM staff in our Johannesburg office. Precious comes from Civicus World Alliance of citizen participation and brings in experience in working with global  civil society movements. Precious also worked at Boston college as a data capturer. Precious received a Bachelor of Administration degree from the University of the North where she also worked as a program assistant.

Sairumanie Viv Naidoo, Program Officer, South Africa
Sairumanie Viv Naidoo assumes primary responsibility for Global Campaign meetings, conferences, and events in Africa and provides high-level administrative support to GCM’s Africa Program.
 
Viv has 10 years of experience in Events Management, Business Development, and Communications. She has organized events with many groups, from local to international companies. She is thrilled to be taking a new direction in her career with her move to GCM and looks forward to learning more.

Malu Lattab, Program Associate, USA
As a Program Associate, Malu manages the commitments  and provides support to the Director and Washington DC staff of the Campaign.  Prior to joining the Campaign, she worked at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation as  a Program Assistant in the Advocacy division of US Program.  Malu has a Bachelor of Arts degree in History.

Elizabeth Chiyende, Program Officer, Zambia
Based in Lusaka, Elizabeth is responsible for strengthening the involvement of civil society organizations to advocate knowledgeably about HIV prevention research in Zambia.  With 8 years of experience in grassroots community mobilization and programme management, Elizabeth will be responsible for helpign to expand the knowledge and capacity of loal women to engage in HIV prevention research process. 

She comes to GCM from Project Concern International (PCI) where she worked as capacity building officer and prior to that, as Senior Program Officer for Africa Directions.  Elizabeth has qualifications in Community Development and Programme Management.  She is currently pursuign a Masters in Public Health with Leeds University.

Patrick Mwai Muchai, Program Officer, Kenya
Patrick is responsible for the coordination of the Community of Involvement Community of Practice (CoP) programme and will help to strengthen GCM’s links with clinical trial staff and build robust activities around community involvement in clinical trials for HIV prevention research. Patrick brings 6 years experience in HIV, including 5 years as Coast Region Officer with the Kenya AIDS NGOs Consortium, (KANCO). Patrick holds an BA degree in Sociology and Communications as well as a Diploma in Management of Information Systems from Strathmore University in the UK. He will be based in Kenya.

Yolanda Moyo, Program Officer, South Africa
Yolanda brings in a wealth of experience in training around clinical trials and product development and has been involved in the conduct of clinical trials as a researcher and quality control manager. Yolanda also has experience in the field of clinical research and product development, working with a wide range of people including medical practitioners, regulatory authorities and communities involved in clinical research that has ranged from HIV, oncology and urology. Yolanda joined GCM from Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry where she was a capacity-building manager. She holds a Masters of Clinical Drug Development from the Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, a diploma in chemistry and a degree in higher nursing education.
