Why student advocacy

Advocacy is at the heart of the microbicide effort and it is vital that students take on this pressing issue. It is today's students who will be the next doctors, lawyers, and epidemiologists. They will have the ability to devise and ensure equitable access to prevention technologies for the women most in need. Microbicide advocacy, like the issue itself, can take many forms and spreads across a multitude of languages, races, and nations. The one unifying and empowering principle is that all advocacy can positively contribute to the global microbicide effort.

Some may ask, why advocate now for a product that doesn't yet exist? The answer lies in the fact that microbicide research and development relies on public investment. Advocacy ensures that microbicides and HIV prevention more broadly, are a true priority. We must advocate now to ensure future access to a successful product for those women most in need of it.
